In today's Mexico, drug cartels have become so powerful, they're threatening the stability of the country.
More than 300 million people worldwide are obese. According to the WHO, obesity will become the major health issue of the third millennium. In Italy, a special hospital has been set up to treat people suffering from this disease. We follow five patients through the five week programme as they take the first few steps to recovery.
Some cases can be linked to genetics, Giada, 20 eats very little but is still overweight, as is her father and brother. More often though, sufferers are caught in a vicious cycle of dieting, over-eating, depression and despair. Maria Rosaria, 21, has struggled with her weight since she was just 12. She lost her mother when she was very young and suffers from loneliness and poor self esteem. Silvia, 32, has spent years trying to overcome her obesity. She had a gastric band fitted which caused her constant pain, and spent time at a health farm where she followed an extreme diet. Back home she couldn't keep it up and turned to appetite suppressants. Her skin started to peel off and her mouth bled.
Beating obesity is a life-long process. There are no quick-fix cures. The goal for programme's participants is to slim down and to stabilise for a year before losing the final 10 or 15% of their excess weight. Once they have achieved this they can start losing the last few kilos, but, they must accept that even when the weight is lost, they will never be entirely free of the disease. There is every risk that it could come back to haunt them.

One morning in 1968, New York woke up to a new slogan: “Expect the Unexpected”. It was a slogan of a new campaign for the Village Voice. And it was to become the slogan of sixties New York. It was a time of a cultural revolution: the anti-segregation movement, political riots and anti-Vietnam war protests, but also Peace and Love, the Rock revolution, the miniskirt. New York was in the center and every day you could… expect the unexpected.
The author of this slogan was a young French artist Tomi Ungerer. He not only designed the Village Voice campaign and many others, he also published a dozen books for children, created political posters and wrote social satire. This film takes you on a journey to the New York and the America of the 60s with a very unique guide – Tomi Ungerer. He brings us back to the heart of what would be called the golden age of American culture. But it's not a nostalgic trip. Instead, it's an explanation of the forces that shaped today's America and predicts how the US will develop in future.

In 2000, Nili Tali produced a film about Israeli men traveling to the Ukraine in search of young wives. Eight years on, she returns to see what's happened to the couples since. Perhaps unsurprisingly, many of these relationships did not survive. One bride ended up homeless and alone in Israel. Another was forced to return to the Ukraine, leaving her baby behind. But other couples are still together. How were these wives able to overcome the cultural and religious divides and adapt to life in Israel? Can anything be learnt from these relationships?

Tasmania Chainsaw Massacre

We investigate how demand for cheap paper is fuelling the destruction of Tasmania's lush primary forests. For thousands of years, the primary forests of Tasmania remained untouched, providing a home for a number of endangered species. Then, in 1970, the paper industry moved in. Around 8 million cubic metres of wood are cut down in Tasmania each year, lining the coffers of the timber companies but emptying the forest of trees.
Ecologists have denounced this as a literal ‘chain saw massacre', and have mounted a spirited resistance, hiding out in tree houses and blocking heavy machinery from entering the forests. They remain dedicated to their cause, even when faced with violence and abuse. But these environmentalists have moved way beyond these artisanal methods. They have also launched an international internet campaign against Gunns, the biggest player in the wood industry, urging investors not to fund the company's new pulp mill project.
As both protestors and industrialists resort to more and more extreme methods, who will be the winners in this increasingly bitter battle?

London, 21 September 2001. In the murky waters of the Thames, a passer-by discovers the lifeless body of a 5-year old African child. Its the arms, legs and head have been removed. For Scotland Yard, this discovery sparked the most intensive and most unusual murder investigation ever conducted. Information from a unique police unit, specialising in occult crimes, lead investigators to deduce that the boy had been sacrificed in a ritual murder of a type which, up to this, had been practised predominantly in southern Africa. These mysterious "muti" murders are an extreme form of occult belief: the body parts or blood of a killed person are ingested as a "muti medicine", in order to grant another person health, power, wealth or strength. We follow Scotland Yard's investigation and investigate the links between the historical, religious and criminological backgrounds to ritual murder.

With its idyllic location and Mediterranean climate, Marbella aspired to be the Spanish San Tropez. It catered to the wealthy, attracting elites from the Middle East and East-Europe.
But it wasn't just Marbella's stunning scenery that attracted immigrants. For years, authorities issued construction permits recklessly, allowing the anarchic building of luxury blocks. Land and apartments could be paid for in up to 50% cash - enormous sums of money that facilitated the laundering of drug money. And Marbella location, just a few miles from Morocco, placed it at one of the major crossroads of the drug trade. Jet-setters, traffickers, cash—it's an explosive cocktail. And two years ago, the Spanish police decided to clean it up.

It was one of the most important books of the twentieth century. An account so shocking few believed it could be true. But the real story of how Solzhenitsyn's ‘Gulag Archipelago' came to be published is just as remarkable as the manuscript itself. Terrified he would be arrested by the KGB, Solzehenitsyn wrote his novel in secret safe houses, regularly changing location. Each section of the book was hidden in a different place. A network of selected friends, known as the 'invisibles', then had to smuggle the manuscript to the West in the form of microfilms. Filming in Moscow, Lithuania, Bremen, Stockholm and Paris, 'Secret History: The Gulag Archipelago' is an unbelievable trip to the other side of the Iron Curtain.

India is rapidly becoming the world's baby factory. It's one of the few countries in the world which authorises payment for surrogacy. For €10,000, you can receive fertility treatment, IVF and have the resulting embryos impregnated in a surrogate mother. Nine months later, you return and collect your new baby. On the surface, it seems to be a win-win scenario. Infertile couples get to have a baby while impoverished women receive enough money to pay for their own children's schooling or buy a small house. But with so many ethical issues at play, can surrogacy really be treated like any other business?
